For Don Bosco, was thinking of his boys - from the start - think of bread every morning to offer strength to deal with the day; clothes they wear to the nakedness of poverty, decent work conditions that allow the kids to be individuals; school that educate and grow the sense of responsibility, love for all those who had not ever experienced heat affection brighter future for that life had denied everything ... It was, ultimately, the expression of father's heart that always thinks first and foremost in their children. Presence was close and friendly word, look good and hard to open doors in the lives of their boys, loving gesture and sleeplessness at night thinking how to do.
But above all, Don Bosco prepared them for work and to face life with determination. Training and job placement became strategic options to Don Bosco. And along with this to prepare them for life, religious proposal offered the opportunity to guide young people toward God, the giver of all good. His proposal became a reality in a project that helped the guys to be honest citizens and architects of social transformation committed Christians while carrying values \u200b\u200bcapable of regenerating the social fabric of the society of his time.
Don Bosco writes in the Memoirs of the Oratory, referring to the origins of Valdocco and the onset of workshops in the oratory
"just became available from other rooms, the number of apprentices artisans, who became fifteen, all chosen from among the most neglected and endangered " (in the original adds: 1847).
Don Bosco chose, expresses himself clearly, young people neglected and at risk for the onset of his oratory. In our family, concern for the past, for the most poor, the most neglected has been a constant and is an embarrassing legacy we have received from our father.
So for us, one of the criteria of significance of our Salesian presences must always care for the poor and abandoned youth. We must cultivate our sensitivity to the past. Our preferred option will also require government decisions that lead to our work towards social projects of prevention and care for the excluded. A true prophecy for our time and a boundary to reach our return to Don Bosco.
