We have numerous testimonies of the experience of poverty in our father Don Bosco and how we loved his children Salesians. In his spiritual testament read:
"When in our communities to enter the comfort and well being our Pious Society will come to an end."
are prophetic words we can not forget and we have to help illuminate the present. Argue that they are not enough words uttered in other contexts and at other times. Don Bosco is pure and his concern for the future of the congregation that he was seriously threatened.
In the introduction to the first Constitutions of the Society in 1875, Don Bosco wrote:
"Everything you need to go beyond food and clothing, is to us unnecessary and contrary to religious vocation. It is true that sometimes we suffer some hardships in travel, on-time jobs or health or disease that perhaps neither food nor clothing or other things are to our liking, but precisely in these cases is when we remember we have made a profession of poverty and if we want to deserve and receive the prize, they must suffer the consequences. "
Return to Don Bosco is therefore renew our choice to live a lifestyle essential and poor. That was the beloved lifestyle and embraced by Don Bosco from his childhood in Becchi and transmitted after his boys and his Salesians Valdocco. Are memorable to us the words of his son Margarita Mama newly ordained priest "Always remember this, John, if you became rich would never set foot in your house" . Mother and son live in Valdocco wonderful years of austerity and solidarity contagious for the sake of young people in need. Essence of life and solidarity with the poor the two sides of the same coin, the option of evangelical poverty which makes us blessed with the heart of God.
