In July 1854 the city of Turin available to deal with a cholera epidemic that threatened to havoc, especially among the population weak and unprotected. Since the government is giving instructions for the prevention so that they can cope with the disease in the best possible sanitary conditions.
Inevitably, in late July, the epidemic began to hit the slums easily spread throughout the city. Don Bosco had housed
home to nearly a hundred boys and did everything that was in their power to retain the Oratorio hygiene and the boys could be preserved against the deadly disease.
But he quickly realized that was not enough. He could not stay locked in his house ensures the care of their kids while there were people dying and suffering unspeakable. Once again, the poor home channel is solidarity and Don Bosco decided to propose to his boys join the volunteer movement that is being organized throughout the city. One day he told his kids:

Who wants to come and help with cholera?

After the initial surprise, a group of street kids who decided to step forward trusting the word of Don Bosco: anyone attack so bad that we entrust to the Virgin and try to to live in the grace of God. And a few more safety and hygiene standards have great faith in God, were launched with incredible generosity. Solidarity
true of boys of Don Bosco . Do not speculate. They trusted the father only, and with it, put their trust in God and in the maternal mediation Mother of the Lord. We do not know how many there were or their names. But among them were Michael Rua, Cagliero and Juan Luis Anfossi, all teenagers between fourteen and seventeen. The three form part, years later the group - with Don Bosco - founded the Salesian Congregation.
None of them, one at the Oratory, was beaten by disease. No one was infected. It fulfilled the promise of Don Bosco. The work of the boys was outstanding. The newspaper L'Armonia, spent a small chronic youth of the Oratory in its edition of September 16:

"In the spirit of his father more that superior, Don Bosco, come boldly to the cholera patients, inspiring courage and confidence, not only with words but with facts cogiƩndoles hands, making friction, without seeing horror or fear. Moreover, entering the house of a cholera patient target the terrified people, inviting them to withdraw if they fear, while they deal with everything necessary. "

Everyone in the city admired his courage and generous. And in the Don Bosco school, learn to make solidarity lifestyle, faith reason for the surrender and trust in Providence an apostolic zeal and daring. Like father, like son.
